More wintery fun!

Our Majors children are really enjoying learning about their topic of Winter, the only thing we need is for the rain to stop and to have some snow instead.

Luckily we have had some cold, frosty mornings, and we left out some tubs of water to freeze overnight. We loved playing with the ice that had formed: pushing it around, feeling it, looking at it closely with magnifying glasses and watching it melt back into water.

This week we have been making splatter pictures by splattering white paint with a toothbrush on black paper. Some of us ended up with more paint on ourselves than on the paper!

A really exicting thing happened this week - a box of new toys arrived! We couldn't wait to find out what was inside.

The box contained lots of new construction toys, including play bricks, cones, drills, clipboards, safety hats, hi-viz vests and a cement mixer. Some of the money we used to buy the toys had come from two of our mums, who completed a 5 mile running race and very kindly donated their sponsorship money to Pre-School. We are really grateful to them for doing this.

We had lots of fun playing with the new toys outside, pretending to be builders.

Colours

Our younger children in the Minors group have started their new topic, which is "Colours". Over the past two weeks we have been looking at the colours black and white.

We have made pictures using white chalk on black paper, black pens on white paper, and black and white paint. We have also been playing with black play dough using white cutters.

We made some great black spider pictures on white paper, and have enjoyed singing "Incy Wincy Spider".

We have been looking at story books that have black and white animals in them. One of our favourites is "We're Going On A Bear Hunt"; the family in the story have a black and white dog.

Winter

Our Majors children are learning about the topic of "Winter" this term, and have been doing lots of fun activities in the last couple of weeks.

We have been making beautiful winter pictures by blowing paint with a straw.

We have also been making some tasty, warming vegetable soup, using winter vegetables.
Firstly, we sorted all the vegetables into groups:

Then, we carefully chopped the vegetables up, ready to be cooked:

Finally, our soup was ready to be tasted!

And it was delicious!

We have also been reading a story this week about a winter vegetable - "The Enormous Turnip". We had lots of fun acting out the story; planting seeds, pulling the turnip, and finally all falling over when the turnip came out of the ground!

Happy New Year to all of our children and their families!

A number of new children have started Pre-School this week in the Minors group. We would like to welcome them and their families to our Pre-School and we hope that they enjoy their time with us.
